You failed to post your version information. To learn about ways to control
how an Address is inserted into Word from Outlook, take a look here:
http://www.slipstick.com/contacts/insword.htm
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=KB;en-us;q134901
More recent versions of Office (XP and 2003) are less predictable when it
comes to inserting addresses. Modifying AddressLayout in Word 2002 will
apply only to addresses inserted into a document, but not to Envelopes or
Labels. The KB offers the following kludgy workaround:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;292127
In Office 2003, the country field is no longer inserted by default with the
Insert Address Function, so there is no need to remove the country/region
field from the Contact Record or to create a customized AddressLayout.
However, if you've made other customizations to AddressLayout, they will
only be applied to a document, but not to Envelopes and Labels. To get these
customizations also to apply to Envelopes and Labels, leave the
Country/Region field blank. In Outlook XP and 2003, most users find that the
country/region field is no longer populated by default in new Contacts as it
was in earlier versions.

The sarcasm didn't help however I did find it just above the enter button on
my key board. It's not a character I've eve used before. Thank you.

You misunderstood. It wasn't sarcasm. How could I tell where you were
looking? I thought you might be trying to insert the bracket by trying to
select a symbol from the toolbar.

I followed all the steps under "To Create a New Format". When I click Insert
and Auto Text the new format shows up under "Normal". Should it have it's
own line rather than show up under "normal? When I attempt to print an
envelope, the old format with Unites States still comes up.

You will need to provide at least some information.
You still have not provided your Outlook version.
Nor could we have any idea which of these solutions you are trying to use.
State the steps you are using precisely and your question.

Sorry, I thought I had answered that with "Windows XP". The information under
the help menu in About Outlook is Outlook 2002 (10.6516.6735) SP3
The directions I followed are from
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/212345/EN-US
They are:
To Create a New Format
To create a new address format, follow these steps:
1. in a new Word cucument, type the predefined address property names (in
uppercase letters) in the format that you want to set up. For example, type
the following
{<PR_GIVEN_NAME>} etc.
2. Select this text.
3. On the Insert menu, point to Auto Text, and then click New.
4. For the name, type AddressLayout
5. Click OK.

If you've selected the text, then Insert > Autotext > New will present you
with a dialog box in which you type the name of the entry (in this case that
should be AddressLayout).

It can be but it is so nice when you can get it to do what you want. The
hardest pert is articulating what you need.Again, thanks.
