My contact icons in the distribution list are different colors.

The newest members that I add to a distribution list have gray "business
cards" in front of their names, while the older contacts appear to have a
green, different icon.  What is the different icon for?

Icons vary depending on the version in which the underlying Contact was
created and on the method by which the member was added to the DL.
