How do I overcome write protection?

I am trying to import Contacts to my new computer. The information cannot be
transferred as it says it is write protected. What do I do? I use Roxio which
might be a problem?

copy the pst to your drive and remove the read flag. if it contains all of
your data, just open it in outlook using file, open, don't import.
