adding a brithday to a contact, it does not link them, how to fix

When i add the birth day inthe details section of the contact card, a
calender event is created for that birhtday, though the two items are not
linked. This is supposed to be an autamatic process, what is wrong here then?

There is nothing wrong if your post is worded correctly. Adding a birthday
to a contact creates a calendar entry with the default reminder.  Working as
expected.  What did you expect to happen, or not happen?
