Can't save contact info - in Exchange Server using Outlook 2007

Using current production Exchange Server with Outlook 2007 Beta, I cannot
save new or modified contact information.  On my laptop, when I access
Exchange Server remotely with an Outlook 2007 Beta Pop-client, I can save new
or modified contact information in my local .pst.  The only way to save now
on the Exchange Server is to access it from OWA not using anything from
Office 2007.

Is this a bug in the Beta or is there something I can change in the
setup/options to allow saving of contact information.  By the way, I have no
trouble saving calendar information or e-mail folder information other than
contacts.

In Contacts, when I hit save I can see the contact change briefly in the
contacts folder but it reverts back to the original within a second or so.

What do you mean by "reverts back to the original"?

You cannot create new contacts in an Exchange mailbox if your only connection to the mailbox is with a POP3 account. You need to be using an Exchange account.

Sue

Sorry for the confusing statement of the problem.  I'm am trying to save the
contact on exchange server with an Exchange account on my office machine.
When I try to edit a contact, I have the contacts view of the Exchange server
open in Outlook 2007.  When I click Save for the edited contact, the edited
contact closes as it should revealing the contacts view where the full
contact list is open showing the contact that I was editing.  For a split
second, the edited (correct) information shows in the contacts view.  Almost
immediately, however, the information reverts to the original (pre-edit)
version.  If I close and reopen Outlook 2007, the original unedited contact
is what I find.

To narrow down the locus of the problem, I did the following two things.

First , I edited the same contact  information using OWA directly on
Exchange Server without going through Outlook 2007, and the contact
information was saved correctly in Exchange Server (while Outlook 2007 was
open in the Contacts View, and almost immediately, Outlook 2007 Contacts View
shows the edited, correct, information for the contact.

Second, I tried to edit a local contact (not one on Exchange Server) using
my laptop remotely connected to Exchange Server only with a Pop client.  The
local contact is saved correctly by Outlook 2007 (locally in the local .pst -
not on Exchange Server).

I only mention the latter two facts to narrow down the problem to Outlook
2007 using an Exchange Account on an Exchange Server.  The OWA test shows it
is not Exchange Server itself blocking the transaction.  The Pop test shows
it is not Outlook 2007 by itself.  It only happens when there is a
combination of Outlook 2007 accessing Exchange Server with an Exchange
Account.

I hope this clarifies my question.  Thanks a lot for the prompt reply, and I
hope you can offer additional insight here.

This is happening in your default Contacts folder in your mailbox?

Sue,

Yes it is.  Any thoughts?

Have you checked for a filter on the current contacts view or tried a different view?

Sue,

You did it.  I was starting in Business Card view (no filters), and no
changes will save.  When I changed to Address Card View, it saves changes
most of the time.  Switching back to Business Card View, it still will not
save, but reswitching to Address Card does the trick.

Along the way, I discovered something I have never seen and don't know where
it is saved.  It is called a Local Failures folder.  In that folder are many
of the failed changes and additions I tried to make earlier.

Though I now have a workaround thanks to you, I'm still wondering whether
this is a bug I should report to MS or whether it is a result of something
flaky going on on my system or my network.  Any thoughts?

I'd say that you should definitely submit feedback on this problem, which I've never heard of before. If you are using the public preview version of Office 2007 Beta 2, the best way to provide feedback is with the Send a Smile/Frown tool from http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=A2E1F4E2-BC0F-4403-B09F
-7A677D55F274
. This tool will transmit your comments and a screenshot back to Microsoft. You could take a screenshot of the Local Failures folder.
