MS Office Forum / Outlook / Contacts / June 2006Part of address book has disappeared
When I go to Outlook 2003 to compose a new email (select "To" icon) and then go to 'Select Names' from pop up list, then 'Show Names From The' and I go to select a name category (under which I have multiple contacts), an error message comes up to say 'The address book could not be displayed. The Contacts folder associated with this address list could not be opened. It may have moved or deleted or you do not have permissions.' But I have not deleted or changed permissions. Other Contacts folders are there; it just seems that this one a nd a few others hav disappeared. What do you mean by a "select a name category?" The only thing the Outlook Address Book displays is Contact Folders that have been enabled as an email address book. You appear to have a corrupt entry in that list. Just remove it. This is what is happening to me, so I exported to fix the file and then imported now my e mail addresses in the file are missing. Same message as above. And what do you think you are seeing there? You are seeing the names of your Contact Folders. Remove the one that throws the error. It is an outdated or corrupt reference. You do so here: Tools > E-mail accounts > View or change existing directories or address books > Outlook Address Book > Change.
