I have a user using outlook 2003 hooked to an exchange 2003
environment. The problem she is experiencing is the following; when she
opens her contacts it shows 2 "contacts" directories one is empty and
the other is populated. The empty one is the one that displays along
with the GAL when she clicks on the 'To' button when creating a new
message. How do I get rid of the empty one leaving the populated one? I
have deleted and recreated her profile as well as several other things
to no avail. Is there a reletively simple fix for this short of hacking
the registry? Do I need to force a recreation of her NTuser.dat?

Thank you.

Just remove the invalid entry in the Address book view here:
Tools > E-mail accounts > View or change existing directories or address
books > Outlook Address Book > Change. >

No dice,, :(  I tried what you suggested but it did not make the extra
contacts go away

I may have been unclear

when my user selects the contacts tab/button in outlook at the top of
the resultant window it shows 2 Contacts like below:

Contacts
Contacts

then all the other normal stuff below that, when selecting one of thos
contacts one has her contacts in it the other does not it is empty.
This empty one is the one I need to get rid of.

Thanks in advance.

Then clarify this statement you made:
"The empty one is the one that displays along
with the GAL when she clicks on the 'To' button when creating a new
message."

Sorry for the confusion when any of our users open thier Address Book
the first list that is displayed is our Global Address List then when
the drop down arrow is clicked to open the drop down there are several
other address lists to choose from it looks like this:

Global address List
All Address List
  All Contacts
  All Groups
  All Users
  Pagers
  Public Folders
Outlook Address Book
Contacts

The contacts above appears to be the empty one but as I said before she
has 2 of them that display in the actual "contacts" but only one
displays in the address book and is not the populated one.

Confusing no?

Thanks again
