Hello,

I am trying to export the contacts from outlook to a web based address book.
It is outlook 2003.  I  followed  the instructions in outlook  to first make
a csv file.  Then it would say "exporting contacts" with the graphic.  Then
there were no addresses on the excel document.    Why is it empty?  Any help
is appreciated.  Thank you.

Did you click the Map Custom Fields button to tell Outlook which fields to export?

Thanks for the reply Sue.  I am not sure if I did that.  Where is it?

It's on the File | Import and Export wizard in Outlook.

Hi Sue,

Thanks for the reply.  I notice that in outlook, on the import/export
wizard, there is no choice of fields to export.  I followed all the
instructions and got an excel document with no contacts in it.  I will just
type them in to the other address book.  I notice, however, that there is
such an option when exporting from outlook express.

After you choose the folder to export from and the export file location, you should see a screen in the wizard with a Map Custom Fields button on it.

Did you try opening the exported file with Notepad? Are you sure you exported from the correct folder?

Hi Sue,
I exported from "contacts" in outlook.  Then I opened the file it made.  It
didn't say anything about opening with notepad.  There was no choice to "map
custom fields".  I just tped everyting in after all.  Just now wondering why
this doesn't work.  Thanks for the reply.

You should see the Map Custom Fields button on one of the dialogs in the Import and Export Wizard.

I was suggesting Notepad as a more generic way of examining a text file.

Hi Sue

I fianally got it to work.  I think that button was either grayed out and
came back or I just didn't see it.  Sorry.  Thanks for your help.
