i export the contacts file & save it as a .pst on my desktop pc. i then put
that file into a shared folder within my home networkon. on my laptop i
import the saved .pst file. i get the message file access denied you don't
have required permission. I am running office 2002 on the pc and 2003 on
laptop, how can i fix this. all i want to do is transfer the contacts to my
laptop once not share all the time.

First, create the PST in the network share on the source PC.  Then copy your
Contacts folder to it.  Don't export.  When the copy completes, close the
PST in Outlook and close Outlook.  Then on the destination PC, open the PST
with File>Open>Outlook Data File.  Do not import.

I suspect the problem you're having is because you didn't close the source
Outlook.  I believe Outlook will keep a connection to the exported PST open
so that your other Outlook can't open it, since only one Outlook at a time
can access any PST.
