When I search for family names like "Smith", I only get some of the contacts.
I have about 25 contacts with the same last name, but only 10 will appear...
What is going on, how do I make it easier to send a group e-mail to family?

Thanks, Bebe... Outlook 2003

Sorry, but you've posted no information that would permit us to tell what is
going on. We aren't watching you and we can't read your mind. Post what you
are doing and what happens in clear, complete detail.

Hey Russ,

I thought it was clear, my mistake.
When I go into the Address Book, I search for keywords by using the "Find"
function.
The search results only bring up partial results.
My example was the name "Smith",
I'll get Bill Smith, Mary Smith, but I won't get Bob Smith or Joe Smith.
For what ever reason some are missed, the contacts are listed the same way
so I am confused as to why I get a partial listing.
I want to be able to send an e-mail to all of the "Smith's" in my contacts
but it seems I can only do this manually by clicking one at a time...
WHY WOULD SOME CONTACT NOT SHOW IN THE SEARCH???
Did that make more sense??? I am not sure how to explain this any better.
Thanks....

I don't understand why you would use the Address Book view for searching.
Outlook doesn't even have an address book. Searching is done in Contacts
Folders. That's where all your data resides.

Russ,
It seems that you have a firmer understanding of the program than I do,
You also seem reluctant to answer the basic question at hand.
I may be doing it wrong but my search results are still partial results,
this indicates a problem.

I want to be able to send one e-mail to all of the "Smith's" in my contacts,
How do I do this???

Outlook does have an AddressBook, listed under Tools then AddressBook.
I use the Address Book because I can search and send a bulk e-mail to the
names within the results, when I use Contacts I can't seem to understand how
to send an e-mail with the searched names.

If you know a better way to get to my goal, I would love to hear it.
I will do it any way that works...

Actually, it's not a "real" address book.  It's just a view of those of your
Contacts folders that have been enabled as address books.  It contains no
data on its own.

One way is after locating the names in Contacts, selecting them all and
clicking Action>New Message to Contact.

Hello Brian,

I understand now, seems odd to be a faux address book...
I just tried it your way and it seems to work like a charm!!!
This is how I will do it from now on... Thank You...

I suspect if you did your search of the actual data source (i.e., your
Contacts Folders) you'd be fine. The Address Book view was never intended
for that purpose and is not reliable.

Hi Russ,
Thanks for the help,
Try to keep in mind most people like myelf are not experts,
I'm a novice looking for help.
Brian Tillman explained this in a clear way and put me on the right path.
For a novice like me, the Address Book seemed logical, even more so because
it has a search feature. I see no warning that indicates the built in Address
Book is a gimp feature. But now I know it's a bad feature that should not be
used.

I am now using the Contacts Search,
then selecting them all and clicking Action>New Message to Contact.

If this is the best way to do a search  for contacts, then that is how I'll
do it.

Thanks...

It was only after your third post that it became clear what you were asking
and where your confusion was arising from. It is much easier to answer
questions once they are made clear.

What the address book does is provide a way for Outlook to resolve names
from your Contacts folder into their corresponding addresses.  So it does
have a purpose, just not the one for which you were trying to use it.
