how do i restrict multiple access to shared Outlook contacts?

I am running Outlook 2003, using the 'contacts'  as a database that is shared
across my company. I want to make sure that only one person can view/edit a
contact at any one time, as on a number of occasions two people have been in
the same contact, generating an error message and duplicate contact.
