Is it possible to send an HTML email via the Email merge?
I have tried setting the Email format to HTML, but this does not work.
Should I give up and use some other software?

It is not only possible, it is required. Only HTML will merge without a
security warning.

Sorry. I read your post and forgot to tie your Subject into the post. Office
2000 disappeared from the radar screen long ago. You must be using the
Office XP with the August 2002 update to Word or later.

No, it's not possible in Office 2000. You'd need a later version.
