In Outlook my addresses say contacts

I am trying to use my contacts in Outlook to send faxes by way of word 2003,
however Wrod does not recognize any contacts and shows no addresses in the
outlook address book.

if you click the to button in a new message form, what happens? do you see
the contacts?
