Automatic Name Checking is a selectable option within the Advanced Options of
the E-mail Tools menu.

I would have thought that all options and facitlities within Outlook would
have entries in the Help System.  From 2007 Beta I have tried to get Help on
Automatic Name Checking without success.

I understand Auto Complete and have read other entries in the News Group on
this.  I thought Automatic Name Checking would be the facility of the
software to check a name as you type from the Outlook contacts file and
suggest results as in Outlook Express.  This does not appear to be the case
as I have set it OFF (but on exiting Tools, the Apply button was still grey
so I could not Apply the change) but on tryping a name in the To field of a
message, the result is underlined suggesting a check has been made.  Any
comments??

Is there an option to switch off autocomplete and work in the same way as
Express with suggestions coming from the Contacts file and not the
System-built recently typed names file?

Help is never complete in beta applications. The autocomplete and automatic name check features are totally separate. Autocomplete makes suggestions and builds the suggestion list from messages you have sent. Name check attempts to match a typed name with an address stored in one of your address lists.

Outlook doesn't work like Express. It doesn't make suggestions from contacts.

What are the symptoms of the problem?

Note that automatic name checking kicks in when you send a message.

on computers that the name checking works, after you move from TO to CC, the
correct name appears and is underlined.  on the computers that it doesn't
work, you move from TO to CC and there is no change.  only when i key in
control K , do i get the proper name and underline

Are both the automatic name check and suggest names options turned on?
