Outlook 2003

I want to select multiple contacts and set the value of the "account" field
to "Friend" for my selected contacts. Is there a way to do this?

Thank you for your help.

What do you hope to accompish with this?  If you think you'll be able to
specify which account will be used when sending to those contacts, you are
mistaken.  If you're just trying to group contacts to segment them, use
categories.

That said, you can certainly add an account value to a selection of
contacts.  DIsplay your contacts in a table list, like By Category.  Then
use the Field Chooser to add the Account field from the "All Contacts
fields" selection.  Then enter some value in that field for one contact.
Right-click the Account column header and select "Group by this field".  Now
you'll have two groups: the group containing the account value you just
entered, and all other contacts.  Select as many contacts as you wish with
CTRL-Click or Shift-Click and then drag the selection to the group you
created.  All those contacts will have that account value added to therm.

Brian, Thank you for the tip - it worked well and was just what I needed.

The reason I did not use categories is that I had tagged some contacts with
the category "Friends" and the others in the folder were tagged the category
"Family". I then viewed by categories. So far so good. There was one group
of Friends and one group of Family. However, when I clicked on any of the
column headers to change the sort order, the view changed and all the
contacts were no longer grouped.

If seems that when I group by any field except categories, I can click on
the column headers to change the sort order and the groups are still there.
With categories as the grouping field, clicking on the column headers
eliminates the grouping.

Thank you for your feedback.
