First, what field on the contact card is used for column one on the
Distribution List?

Secondly, by knowing that, can I then make my distribution list read: Last
name First name?  (it doesn't matter if a comma is there or not for me)

It uses the same field to sort as you've specified for the Outlook Address
Book. Only you can tell us what that is.

After you have created your Distribution List, click on the Update Now
button, they will then sort.
