I have thousands of contacts in Outlook. I want to export only one or more
categories to a PST file. Anyone know how?
Thanks.

Exporting is never a good way to transfer Outlook data.
Just create a new PST file and copy these contacts into their own Contacts
Folder in that file.

Hmm... File->New->Outlook Data File? THe new PST contains Deleted Items and
Search folders. How then do I create a Contacts folder in this pst file? I
tried creating a new folder and dragging contacts to it, but it creates an
email to all the addresses (cause it's not a contacts forlder).

It's not hard.
File > New > Folder. You have the option of creating a Contacts Folder in
the "Folder Contains" dropdown.

Thanks Russ. For some maybe, but for me at least, nothing is easy with
Outlook. E.g. why not just make it possible to export contacts by category,
e.g. into an excel file??? ANyway, here's what I tried/got: Icreated a new
folder named Orbis (my client). A new personal folder called Personal Folders
appears in my folder tree. Hmm... then I click the new personal folders and
create a new folder in it called contacts, and tell it to make it contain
contacts. I double check that it's creating it in the new personal folders.
Nothing happens. I have tried it numerous times, with different pst file
names, folder names, deleting, rebooting, etc. UI can't get it to create a
contacts folders. Hmm...
Help!!! Thanks.

What do you mean by "nothing happens?" What exactly are you doing and what
isn't happening that you think should?

Presumably a contacts folder should appear in the new personal folder. I
think I just answered my question. I am accustomed to looking at the "Mail"
folder list, not the complete folder list. By switching views, the contacts
folder appears and I have solved my problem. Thank you very much for being so
responsive. How can I "rate" your service?

Your thanks is enough. No one keeps score on the volunteers.
