This morning, my computer looked like it did when I first brought it home.  A
blue background with the Windows 2000 startup message on it.

I had lost all the desktop shortcuts, settings, explorer favorites, etc.,
but I found those in another <username> folder and was able to restore them.
However, Outlook is another story.  After having to reconfigure Outlook with
the correct POP settings, etc. , I found that all of the contacts and e-mail
in my personal folders and in the inbox were gone.   I searched for a .pst
file on my hard drive, but the search found no files with .pst extension.

Are my inbox messages and contacts lost or is there a magic registry setting
that I can set to recover this info?   Please help!

Did you enable searching hidden files and folders?

Enabling the display of hidden files worked!  I transferred the files back to
the Admin account.

Now the files are in the right place (under the admin account), but the
computer doesn't see them.  My desktop, my favorites, background, all of the
My Documents,  email, cookies... nothing is found when I'm in the admin
account even though if I search for the files under c:\documents and
settings\admin\local settings\  , everything is there.  Yes, I am logged in
as admin.

Did you take ownership of all the files?
