When I imported my contacts into Outlook on my new computer the icons for
'folders' had changed. Instead of the yellow folder icon, I now have the
contact icon to represent the folders. Also, the sub-catagories don't show up
anymore except in the 'add new folder' view.

Start over again with a new mail profile and don't import.  Use
File>Open>Outlook Data File instead.
