When I enter a letter in the 'to' box of a new email, a dropdown appears with
suggestions for addressees.  Where is this list stored and is it possible to
export the entire list to my contacts en masse?

The autocompletion cache is a file with an NK2 extension. You can only
import it into your Contacts using third party tools like:
http://www.ingressor.com/
