updates to my address book often do not change the pull-down list available
when I want to sent an e-mail message.
I contacted a "Microsoft professional" through your one free query program
but was totally put off: He contacted me with an answert that came nowhere
near to the problem I posed; I then tried to e-mail him two or three times
but could not raise a response. Should I try to through good money into that
kind of help and try again on my own nickel? I think not.

Are you making a suggestion or asking for ideas on how to solve your problem? If the latter, you need to start by providing a clearer description including your Outlook version and what you mean by "pull-down list"

Probably because the Address Book interface is NEVER the place to manipulate
your contacts.  Do that in the Contacts folder.  The address book is just a
view of your contacts folder and contains no information of its own.

How is this in any way a "suggestion"?
