Address book icons freezing Outlook 2003

I am using Outlook 2003 in a notebook only a few weeks old.  Suddenly I have
found that any attempt to click on any of the address book icons in a new
message instantly freezes the screen.  Disabling F-Secure temporarily makes
no difference.  I can get into the address book (contacts) from the toolbar
on the main Outlook screen and copy addresses over from there, but this is
laborious.

I have recently downloaded IE7 and the latest Firefox; whether or not that
is relevant I don't know.

Any solutions or suggestions?

This is a very common problem which Microsoft claims they cannot reproduce
and therefore cannot solve. Anecdotal reports claim the following may help:
1. Look for and correct a corrupt address in the Contacts displayed in the
Outlook Address Book (especially if the freeze at the same place when
scrolling).
2. Remove then re-add the Outlook Address Book Service or, better yet,
create a new Outlook profile.
3. Update your video drivers.

Most people seem to find no solution.
