Thanks Sue, I was aware of the Advanced Find option but
had never got beyond the Message tab and it's invitation
to "Search for the word(s)". It seemed inappropriate for
my purpose. Anyway, that's my excuse! Thanks again,

In case you didn't find it already: You need to search for contacts, not messages. You'll see an option in the In drop-down list for phone number fields.
