I had a recent problem with my PC and after trawling through various forums
and newsgroups - I thought f*** it I'll do a re-installation. I checked
which Outlook files I had to back-up and had thought I had covered
everything (obviously not).

I re-installed the system, Windows XP Pro with SP2, Office 2003 Professional
(because I prefer Outlook 2003 over Outlook Express for handling my e-mail),
and all the other bits and bobs. Everything seemed fine and the initial
problem was gone; but when I create a new e-mail message and click "To" to
pick the recipients I get the following message:

"The address list could not be displayed. The Contacts folder associated
with this address list could not be opened; it may have been moved or
deleted, or you do not have permissions. For information on how to remove
this folder from the Outlook Address Book, see Microsoft Office Outlook
Help."

I've worked my way through Outlook help and can't seem to correct the
problem. I would like to scrap the current "Contacts" folder and then create
a new one that will work with the "To" command.

I have manually copied all of the data from my contacts folder, so it's not
as if I can lose anything now! Can someone please show me show to scrap the
current "Contacts" folder and set up a new one that will work fully with
Outlook 2003?

Many thanks to anyone would can help me.
Preferably before I go bald by tearing out my hair in frustration. :-)

Gary.

Hi Gary,

you don´t need to move or copy the contacts into a new folder.

I think this sites will show you, how to use the existing contact folder as
Outlook Addressbook:

""The address list could not be displayed" error message when you use your
Contacts to address a new message in Outlook"
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;Q319901

or this site:
"Contact information does not appear in the address book in Outlook 2002 and
Outlook 2003"
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;287563&Product=ol2002

Maybe it helps:

Thank you, the first option worked a treat! Thanks for saving me the hassle
of inputting all my contact details in again!
