Hello,
I'm using Outlook 2003 on XP Pro.
I Exported my contacts as a .pst file on my thumb drive.
I wish to add only selected contact from the file to my home computer's
Outlook.
Please advise me.
At what point do I have a chance to indicate my selections from the entire
.pst file before the whole thing is dumped into it?
Should I have done that during the exportation process?
Thanks Gordon

You should not have exported in the first place. Exporting and importing are
never the correct way to transfer Outlook data.
Just open this PST file in Outlook and copy the Contacts you want from it.

Russ, thanks for the reply,
I have read before in other posts that export/import is not the best way.
Can you please tell me or point me to the way this is supposed to be done?
In which window/dialogue box/folder do I first find the PST file in order to
make my selections to copy?
Then, what is the mechanism for getting them into the contacts of the
recipient Outlook?
Sorry, I guess I need step-by-step...
Thanks, Gordon

Take a look at these pages for info on Outlook data backup or transfer:

Russ, Thank you.
One step up the learning curve for me.

Russ, I read the links that you attached.  Thank you.
However, I am still not fully understanding this process.
Rather than transferring (copying/importing) selected contacts into the
recipient computer, I'd be happy just to periodically take all of the
contacts from one of the main E-mail/billing computers and get them into all
of the others.
Thank you

The process is still pretty much the same: Copy the contacts into a .pst file. Copy the .pst file to the other machine. Open the .pst file in Outlook. Copy the contacts from the .pst file into the Contacts folder.

Sue, I am still not successful in importing as a .pst
a dialogue box indicates the following:
The file   blahblahblah.pst is not compatible with this version of the
personal folders information service.  Contact your administrator.

Is your home computer using a version earlier than Outlook 2003? Have you checked the file's properties to make sure it's not set for read-only access?

Yes, both using Office Pro 2003.
One is Windows XP Pro and the other is Windows media center edition.
The file's properties do not indicate read-only access.
I have tried importing directly from a CD back up and from the desktop after
I dropped it there.

Russ, sorry but I am still not able to understand the process.
I read through the info provided in the links that you attached.
Rather than getting selected contacts into another machine, I would be happy
to just get the entire contacts list into the machine.
Again this is XP Pro, Office 2003 Pro, going into similar existing machines.
Thank You
