I have been using Office 2007 Outlook for some months now and all is good.
Now the Beta has expired and I would like to trial the proper version. I
understand I need to uninstall the Beta first. If I do that, however, will I
lose all my data (emails, contacts)? As the Beta has expired, Outlook Beta
no longer functions and I cannot, for example, export my contacts to a .csv
file or other format ready to import into the new Outlook 2007. Or are the
.pst files updated in real time and the new Outlook 2007 will just pick the
contacts and old emails up from there? I'm nervous!
Thanks
Importing and exporting are never the right way to back up your data. This
is not hard. You back up data by placing a copy of your Outlook data file in
a safe place. Outlook 2007 is no different in this regard than any other
version of Outlook. The file you need is your Personal Folders file (*.pst)
It's where all the mail, calendar, contacts etc are stored.

Just to add to what Russ said, your existing .pst file is just fine where it is. You can use it in OL2007 or even OL2003.

Today I uninstalled OL2007 and am now back to OL2003, all mails and contacts
present and correct.

Thank you very much, I feel safe to proceed. (Just one comment, though -
when I got the notification that my quesiton had been answered, the link took
me to a Welcome page - it was then quite a long process of searching again
for my question to find your answer! I would have thought it would have
taken me to the discussion group where my question was. Anyway, thanks
again!)

No idea what you're talking about. This is Usenet. Most of us just use a
standard newsreader to read this group. You are obviously using some
dysfunctional overlay to Usenet, probably one designed by Microsoft.
I'd recommend a standard newsreader instead.
