I am using MS windows XP dialer configuring it in Outlook 2000. I have created area code rules for the 800 numbers so the calling card will not be used. The dialer ignores the calling card, but does not prefix it with 1. If I add the 1 to the rule, the dialer includes the calling card info. What am I doing wrong? Posting to the wrong group. There doesn't seem to be a way to invoke an area code rule that can selectively use the calling card - it's either-or. But there is a way around it. You can set up two separate area code rules; one rule you use for dialing numbers with your calling card and the other rule you use for dialing 800 numbers without the calling card. You would have to manually switch between the rules, so it's slightly cumbersome. But let me ask this: Do you get charged for calling 800 numbers using your calling card? Instead of +1 (800) XXX-XXXX for the phone number in the contact properties, I entered +1 (1800) XXX-XXXX and changed the area code rules for all 800 number area codes to have the 1 prefix and it works great.
