"Contact list" has no meaning to us. You use of that term could mean
anything. State what you think it means, and state more clearly what you
did.

I copied the Contacts folder from a computer that had Outlook 2002 on a CD as
a pst file. I am now trying to import that file into the Contacts folder of a
computer that is running Outlook 2003.  Outlook 2003 won't allow me to imort
it or read it.  I get a message that personal file folders are stored in a
different language in Outlook 2003 than in Outlook 2002. I've heard there is
a way to get around this problem. Any idea how?

Say how you created the PST in the first place.  If you used export, start
over.  There's no need to use export.

I believe export was used but don't remember for sure. I no longer have
access to the other computer. I just have the pst file on a CD which I've
also loaded onto my desktop.

If the PST is on your hard drive, make sure that the read-only attribute is
disabled, then start Outlook, click File>Open>Outlook Data File, browse to
the PST, select it, and click OK.  You should then have access to all the
data it contains.  If the DL is not in its Contacts folder, then the
original export ruined it and it's unrecoverable without access to the
original PST containing it.

I couldn't open it so obtained access to a computer with Outlook 2003 and
it's now in the contacts folder of that computer so I'm ready to start over.
What's next?

Let me make sure I understand.  You now have an Ooutlook instance in the
Contacts folder of which your Distribution List appears, correct?  Does the
DL look proper to you is you open it?  If so, you have several choices.  One
is to create a new Rich Text mail message, drag the DL to that message to
atatch it, then send the message to an account accessed from the Outlook
instance where you want the DL.  You can then open it and save it to the
Contacts folder on that PC or you can just drag the attachment to the
Contacts folder.

If you can't mail it, create a new PST with File>New>Outlook Data
File>Outlook 97-2002 Personal Folders File (.pst)>OK.  Once that's in place,
create a Contacts folder inside of it and right-click and drag the DL to
that new Contacts folder (or use Edit>Copy to Folder).  Then close that PST,
stop and restart Outlook.  At this point you now have a PST you can
transport to the other PC in accordance with what you've been told in earlie
in this discussion.

What I have done is transfer my entire contacts folder information (not a
distribution list) into an Outlook 2003 computer. It opens and shows my
contacts with all the information just as it should. What I want to do now,
is take that entire contacts folder and transfer it to another computer with
Outlook 2002.

Create the 97-2002 format PST as I described.  Then copy the Contacts folder
to it.  Close the PST, close Outlook, and transfer the PST to the other
machine.  Open it there in Outlook.  Open the transferred Contacts folder,
select all the items in it with CTRL-A, click Edit>Copy and specify the
default Contacts as the destination.
