Outlook 2007 contacts phone number

How do you prevent an automatic insertion of your local area code when
placing a seven digit phone number in the phone section of contacts. Is there
a place to turn off this feature globally? Is there a way to bypass entering
your local telephone area code?

No. Masking of phone numbers in Outlook is hard coded.
