Hello 0/

I have two rather odd problems with the Contacts list in Outlook 2003.

I am supporting a user who has a number of contacts in alphabetical order
from A to W.

Oddly though they are listed in the middle of the full contacts list. There
are blank contacts before and after the actual list of contacts.

The user has no idea where they came from.......

They apeard at the same time as the drop down Address Book menu became
stuck. In the past when you clicked the menu you could chose from a number of
address books/contact lists. Now though you can only chose one contact, as in
one person. Their name being perminently in the menu.

Any help or advice some one could give would be greatly apriciated.

Are you looking in the Contacts folder to see these?  What view are you
using?

Sounds like removing and readding the Outlook Address Book service might be
a good idea.

This is when viewing all contacts in the "Contacts" section from the left
side panel. The Contacts folder.

They are displayed as "Address Cards" but I've also tested them as "Detailed
Address Cards" with the same problem.

The drop down Address Book menu (the bit where is normaly says "Type a
contact to find") is viewable in all sections and has the same problem no
mater what screen your in, a perminent contact in it with no way of selecting
another contact or contact group, or so it would seem.

How do i remove and re-add the Address Book service?

Any ideas how this happened, just so i can look for a way to stop it
happening again.

Thanks

Tools>E-mail Accounts>View or change existing directories or address
books>Next.  Select "OUtlook Address Book" and click Remove.  Stop and
restart Outlook.

Click Tools>E-mail Accounts>Add a new directory or address
book>Next>Additional Addres Books>Next.  Select Outlook Address Book, click
Next, Next, FInish.  Stop and restart Outlook.

A number of things can cause this, including importing contacts or
transferring Outlook data from one Outlook instance to another via
export/import.  However, since I wasn't there to watch you, it's not
possible to give a definitive answer.
