My Inbox appears in my Contacts list

Hi

Just yesterday I noticed that my Inbox was stuck showing two new emails in
the folder list as in "Inbox(2)" when there were no new emails in the box.
This morning it was still showing 2 new emails when there were more than
that. Strange enough, but when I went to look up a contact this morning I saw
that the "Inbox(2)" now appears as an available folder in the Contact list.
Bizarre! I have right-clicked and checked to see if there is a checkbox to
untick that says to display the Inbox as a Contacts folder, but it does not
have one. It's really unusual and I wonder if anyone else has had a similar
problem and how they worked around it.

Outlook doesn't do this all by itself. An end user created this folder and
since they gave it the same name as another folder, it was renamed. Assuming
you do not need a second Inbox folder and that your default Inbox folder is
intact, move anything in the second folder to the default, then delete the
second folder. I doubt this has anything to do with Contacts.

I have to disagree. I'm the only person using this computer, and I'm no
slouch so I can confidently say I didn't create it without realising. It
can't be deleted or removed through an option - it appears on the Contacts
screen, not Mail screen, under my Contact Address Book in the top of the left
pane.

When I click on it it shows the contents of my Inbox, but from the Contacts
screen, which is really baffling. Also the continued presence of the "(2)"
mails suggests that it is a system error and not user, wouldn't you agree?

Ha ha, i might have to eat humble, it seems it was a favourite folder - not
one that I created though I am sure.
I've right-clicked and disabled it and logged out of Outlook (twice) at
which point it didn't not reappear. The "(2)" still remains which I maintain
is definitely not me!

It has resolved itself, although I don't know how. The Drafts folder and
Deleted Items folder were doing the same thing. I emptied all folders, closed
Outlook, but had to do it by killing the Outlook process. When I restarted it
everything had returned to normal.

Thanks for offering your help, I will have to put it down to Gremlins.

Another common cause of this is if you ever tried to import Outlook data.
That often tosses data and folders into unsuspected places.
You might want to start Outlook with the /resetfolders switch and repair
your PST file to clear up any other inconsistencies you may have acquired.
