email address incorrect in distribution list

I have a contact that used to have the email address X but I have
changed the address to be Y.  When I look at the address in my
contacts, I see it correctly as Y.  But whenever I add the contact to
a distribution list, it still uses the old address X.  I know it uses
the old one because when I view the distibution list, there's a two-
column list (the left column is the name and the right is the address)
and it shows the old address in the right column.  When I send an
email to the distribution list, it sends it to the old address.

Thanks in advance,
John

Have you actually removed that person from the DL and then added them back
to it? Try it if you haven't.

Yes I have tried that and it doesn't work.  It's so strange because
when I am looking at the dialog that lists all of the contacts in the
distribution list (with the name in the left column and the email
address in the right column), it shows the old email address for the
contact.  But if I double-click on the contact, so that it brings up
the dialog with all the info for the contact, it shows their new email
address.  btw, I am using outlook 2002. Any other ideas? thanks

Have you tried the Update Now button on the right side of the window?

Double-click that e-mail address and open the "E-Mail Properties" dialogue.
Does the address look correct there?

Yes, if you double-click that e-mail address and open the "E-Mail
Properties" dialogue, the address looks correct there.

I'm stumped.

There is the small possibility that the e-mail 2 field is populated and that
it is what is displaying? Sounds far-fetched, but ...???

Nope. I opened the contact properties email2 isn't filled in.  So I
went to the "all fields" tab and looked through every single field
associated with the contact and didn't see the old/wrong address
anywhere.

Here are a couple of questions about behaviour I noticed while trying to
reproduce your case:
1.- Have you tried deleting just the @ from this contact and clicking the
Update Now button and try to open the contact again thru the DL? If you get
a prompt to remove the contact, answer No. (You will need to go back to that
Contact's folder to open it's form and paste the @ back, and reinsert that
contact to the DL.)
2.- Is the icon in the DL for this contact an ID card or a Rolodex card?
3.- If you open the contact from the DL, do you get the full Contact form,
or just a small E-mail Properties window?
Last, and this is a total shot-in-the-dark, is it possible that there is a
duplicate record for this contact? I'm betting on the No answer, but I had
to ask.

1. When I follow your instructions, I do get the prompt asking if I
want to remove the contact.

2. The icon is an ID card like a business card.  Most of my contacts
have a rolodex card.  I am not sure the difference actually.

3. I get the full contect form.

I kept opening the contact form, changing the email address around,
saving it, and updating the dist list, and eventually the DL got the
right address.  I don't know what the problem was, but thanks for your
suggestions.  One question for you though: If I change the email
address for one of my contacts, do I have to go to every DL that the
contact is in and click the "update now" buttons in order for the DL
to use the new address?
thanks again.
