Outlook 2002.  Something changed somplace.  When I write a New email
and click the TO icon, I get a SELECT NAMES dialog box.  I want it to
bring up my Contacts instead.  It used to bring up the Contacts.  How
can I change it back?

Open your Address Book - tools->options->use the dropdown to set your first preferred folder for contacts.

I tried that, Milly, but it won't stick.  My Contacts are named AH
Contacts.  That's what I chose in the dropdown.  I applied, closed
Outlook, restarted -- it still defaults to the "Address Book."

Is your AH contacts folder marked as an Outlook Address Book?  Right click, properties, outlook address book tab.

I think I goofed.  I unchecked the boxes for my Contacts folders to be
listed as Outlook Address Books.  The "AH Contacts" was never a folder
-- it was the label on the rolodex-icon in the left pane.  Now when I
create a new email, click the icon on the TO line, I get the
following:  "The address book could not be displayed ... " and then
the Outlook Address Book opens, blank.

I still cannot get my Outlook Contacts to open.

Thank you - we get the message.  Now calm down.

This is only a news group, not rocket science.  If you do not find the answer you want, and refuse to accept that pressing the TO: will ALWAYS bring up your Address Book, then you are welcome to contact Microsoft directly (Product Support Services - although that might not help since Outlook 2002 is out of mainstream support) for assistance.

By the way, to configure what gets shown first, open your Address Book, select Tools->Options.  Use the dropdown.

I know, I know, this has been posted to you several times but it appears that somewhere a connection is not being made.  Just my $ .02.
