When I try to add a phone number to my contacts a box pops up asking for
Location Information.  It has a dropdown for country/region which is blank.
I can't go any further than this box because it's a required field which will
not let me add to.  Why is it blank and how can I reset it to show the
countries?

Use Windows Control Panel to set your PC's dialing location.

What versionf of Windows are you using?  When I look at XP, there is no
drop-down labeled "Dialing Options" in the Phone and Modem Options applet.

When I go to the control panel and select phone and modem options, a box pops
up labeled 'Location Information'.  The first dropdown is 'What
Country/Region are you in?'  That dropdown is blank.

This sounds like a Windows issue.  Try asking in a newsgroup focussed on the
version of Windows you use (which you still didn't state or I would direct
you to an appropriate group).

Thanks Brian for you help.  I am using Windows XP.  I'll try one or their
forums.
