You can save an Outlook data file the same as you would any other file on
your hard drive. What is your question?

Your question is a tad ambigious so based on what I think you're asking:
To make a copy of your contacts for the purposes of "pruning/updating" - 2
options:
#1 - Create a new PST file / create a contact folder within that PST file
and "copy" your contacts from your primary contact folder to the one just
created
.or......
#2 - Create a new contact folder within the same PST file and "copy your
contacts from your primary contact folder........
To import these contacts to another database -
#1 - You will need to "export" the contact folder either via the Outlook
export wizard or via 3rd party export product. If you have any user-defined
fields (or use a custom form) - the Outlook export wizard is not an option.
#2 - If you decide to export the data "before" you proceed with your
"editing/pruning", make sure you have all the fields you need and the data
is in a format that can be easily imported by whatever database you plan to
use. Generally, one of the safest formats is CSV followed by MS Access.
Didn't mention Excel since CSV can be opened in Excel.
As a general rule which holds true for 99.999% of the population (ergo, you
are not using/going to use any special custom software) - you can only
manipulate data in PST files within Outlook.

Thank you Russ and Karl. I exported the file into a CSV file for future use.
I was nervous about "pruning/updating" and losing info...not having done it
before. Appreciate your answers and this forum which is new to me...
