MS Office Forum / Outlook / Contacts / September 2007Can someone suggest another Outlook Forum?
When I try to ask a new question, this forum sometimes has errors and I have to start all over again. Could someone suggest another expert Outlook forum outside MS? This isn't a "forum" - you are actually accessing a global Usenet Newsgroup via a clunky web interface. If you use a newsreader, instead of the web interface, you won't get the errors! But you can set them (or most of them) to show replies to your messages when you enter a particular group.... Gordon Thanks. Figured out how to setup the newsgroup before seeing you last reply. I must have done something right to get to this outlook contact area. Now I'm wondering if it will send me an email from any replies? Not at all - you can use any news reader you like - if you set it as default, then the Go-News option in Outlook will open it. have a look here: http://www.newsreaders.com/win/clients.html Looks like you were perhaps talking about the MAPILab NNTP for Outlook. I appreciate the link, but there didn't seem to be any free ones and I don't want to sign up for "take part in testing or purchasing the products and services of our partners". Mapi offers. Since I am (as you suggested) using a different email account for the address I have given here and keeping my personal account (default) away from the newsgroup. I think it might be cheaper for me to just setup OE to use that other account since outlook won't due multiple accounts. This way I can keep them separate and hopefully maintain some security. So this NNTP newsgroup won't send me an email notification. Pity. I'm not on newsgroups (as I mentioned before) therefore will have to check every so often to get some help with topics I post such as my contacts listings and my MS Windows address book entries (which outlook seems to be using). The MW address book will have to be on another MS newsgroup anyway won't it. Oh well. >> Oops, I see it uses Outlook Express. You can run OE in a "news only" mode -- just add the /newsonly switch to the shortcut you open OE with. You can mark threads as "watched" if you are involved with them, so they're easy to find again later. Thanks alot! I added the /newsonly switch to the end of the line in the Target field in my shortcut, "C:\Program Files\Outlook Express\msimn.exe" /newsonly However OE still opens up looking the same as it did before. Should it look different or perhaps only show the newsgroups listed under the folders on the left sidesuch as msnews.microsoft.com? It's going to look almost exactly the same as it would if you opened it without the /newsonly switch, except there will be no Inbox and you won't be able to add mail accounts.
