I'm trying to copy my contact list from my smartphone to Outlook 2007BCM I was syncing with my old computer using Outlook XP. The old computer died and now I'm working with new computer and Vista with Outlook 2007 BCM. The phone syncs fine with Outlook 2007 but I don't know how to get the contacts from the phone into Outlook. SignatureBrian Tillman [MVP-Outlook] Brian The sync software is Windows Mobile Device Center 6.1.6965. The phone seems to sync OK with the computer. It copied contacts from Outlook BCM into the Business Center utiltity in the cell phone. The Mobile Device center also displays the contents of the cell phone directory. One problem is even though the contact list is functioning on the cell phone I can't find it in the cell phone directory when it's displayed in the Moble Device Center. I'm hoping to be able to sync the existing phone directory with the computer, just like I was able to do using Active Sync and Outlook XP. on my old computer. Windows Mobile Device Center is supposed to behave in a fashion similar to ActiveSync, allowing the phone's contacts and Outlook's default Contacts folder to stay in sync. I believe BCM adds another Contacts folder that's not the default and that, I don't believe, will sync. Can you remove the BCM portion and try again to see if that makes any difference? I'm just looking for a way to get my existing contacts from the phone to the computer. I did try synchronizing with Outlook (without BCM) but I got nowhere. The help guide only addressed the synchronizing with BCM. The only reason I upgraed to Outlook with BCM is to get it to sync. Are you saying Outlook 2007 will sync with a smartphone without BCM? Certainly. Synching is totally under the control of the sync software. Outlook doesn't have anything to do with it, except as a place to keep the data. When I first set up Outlook (without BCM) I tried synchronizing and it didn't work. Then I upgraded the BCM and it does sync with the BCM phone list. Unfortunaly all my data is in the old contact list in the Smartphone and that list will not sync with Outlook. What do you suggest I do at this point. You'll have to be explicit about what "didn't work". What do you suggest I do at > this point. I'd create a new mail profile in Outlook with no BCM and a new partnership with the mobile device (after backing up both my PST and the device, of course). SignatureBrian Tillman [MVP-Outlook] Brian The phone I'm using is a Samsung Blackjack. I called Samsung customer service and in a few short minutes with a level 2 tech we got it to sync the contact list, email etc with Outlook. When the new Sync software (It's still called Active Sync on the phone menu) was loaded on the phone, the options for the contact list and others were not checked. I just checked off the items I wanted and did another sync and it worked. Thanks again for all your help. > > I'm not sure where to go from here. I have contacts in multiple folders that i have created for differing contact types. Are you saying that windows mobile 5 will only sync with the default contact folder? No, I'm saying ActiveSync will sync only the default contacts folder. Outlook doesn;t take part in the synching except as a data repository. > If so, what to i have to do, put all my contacts in the default > folder? That's one approach.
