When a type a name in, most of the time no names are revealed.  Just a few
names come up when I do a search.
Example when I type "Mike" nothing appears, even thought there are serveral
Mikes in my contacts.  When I type "Don" only two names appear when there are
are several more.

Rather hard to answer without information. You neglected to post your
Outlook version, information store, and search method.

Outlook 2007
Vista OS

My search method was using the "Search Inbox" in the Outlook program.

Why are you searching for your Contacts in the Inbox?

It also says "Search all Contact Items".

Not here it doesn't. I would at least search in the relevant folder.
If that fails, check the status of Indexing for Instant Search.

When I am in my contacts folder as opposed to the calendar or mail folder,
shouldn't I be able to do a search of my contacts "instant search" by typing
a name of a partial phone number?  Shouldn't this give me a list of all the
matching names or partial numbers?

Russ thanks for the help.

We seem to be changing topics, but yes, that's the way it works.

Again thank you for your patience.

Let me begin anew.

In MS Outlook 2007 I am attempting to do a search.  whether it is a name,
first or last, zip code, phone number, etc. In the right hand top corner
there is a box that states "search contacts".    I should be able to use this
to search all thtough my contacts, in fact as a type it should quiery the
options and filter them more as I add letters or numbers.

This is my assumption.

My problem is that when I do type for example "michael" it does not find the
8 michaels I have in my contact list.  WHen I type "Don" it only brings up
one of the Don's in my contacts.

Something is wrong and I need to correct.  Please advise and thank you for
your time.
