When I started with Outlook 2007, one primary purpose was the ability to
choose from a large variety of categories so that I could email/communicate
with my clients based on their interests, etc..  Do you have some sort of way
to import the master category list?  I wanted the list to choose options, not
have to create all of my own.  If I am missing something, please advise.

Do you want Outlook to wipe your bottom as well? What's the problem with
creating your own categories? Your categories are probably TOTALLY different
from the ones I use so I welcome the ability to create my own...

No need to be rude Gordon.  It is great to add categories, I agree, but why
reinvent the wheel.

Outlook 2007 no longer places a generic list of categories in the registry.
It does, however, allow you to retain any of the categories you were using
with previous versions. Instructions here:

Russ,

Thank you.  I did not have a previous version on this computer.  I bought it
new with the Vista system.  Is there a way for me to import those categories
from another source?  I appreciate your assistance.

No. Seems to me it would be pretty easy just to create the Categories you
want. That's what most of us have done all along anyway.

do you have them in another version of outlook? if so, it's quite easy to
add them to outlook 2007, especially if you move the pst. If you choose to
make a new pst and not move your data, you just need to move 1 item with all
the categories.

I still have the Outlook 2003 on a laptop that I no longer use.  I have
Outlook 2003 on that computer, but was using Outlook express.  So, is there a
way to copy the file from the 2003 laptop onto a disc and then upload it onto
my new computer with Outlook 2007?  If so, I am challenged on the computer
and would appreciate some very elementary instructions on how do do it.
Thank you!!

Kelly, first open the old Outlook on your laptop, pick any item and assign
every category to it. Then close Outlook and find the PST file, usually in:

C:\Documents and Settings\[user]\Local Settings\Application
Data\Microsoft\Outlook

Copy that to the new computer. Click in Outlook File/Open/Outlook Data File.
Then right click on the new top folder, Properties/Update to Color
categories.
