Randomly opening contact categories

In my Office Outlook 2007, i have my categories set up to be viewed by
category.  Whenever i select Contacts from the left hand navigation bar, my
contact categories seem to be randomly all expanded or all collapsed, and
occasionally, it will show my the view i used most recently.  Why would there
not be a default view that it would always revert to when viewing my contacts
(kind of like my Calendar always shows me the monthly view when i view it,
and not randomly weekly or daily views)?  I would like them to be collapsed
when i view them every time.  Is it possible to set a default view?

There's a setting.  Right click the column header (eg where it says
firstname in the grey bar) and select Customise Current View | Group By |
expand/collapse defaults are in the bottom right corner.
