Move an Outlook 2003 catagory to an Outlook 2007 color category

I had set categories for contacts in Outlook 2003 and previous versions. How
do move the these categories to the new color categories?
Also why did microsoft make this change and not allow for importation? major
irritant!

Right click on the root of your mail store and select properties, then "upgrade to color categories"
