Address list problem

I installed Outlook 2007 on a new portable running Windows VISTA, then (using
Microsoft Easy Transfer) transferred data from my old desktop running XP and
Outlook 2003.

Now my Contacts folder isn’t accessible when I try to address an email
message even though the contacts show up in the Contacts folder. I open a New
message and click on the “To” button -- when I get the Select Names window,
there are no Address Books in the drop down list to choose from.

I’ve read several psots on this, and followed the instructions in ||
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;287563&Product=ol2002

I went to Tools/Account Settings/Address Books and clicked New, then
Additional Address Books, then Outlook Address Book. This got me a pop-up box
that said: “The account or directory type already exists and cannot be
specified twice.”

Now what?

Read the posts that actually apply to your situation (there are many). When
you do, you will discover that you cannot use Windows Easy Transfer with
Outlook. It creates a corrupt profile that leaves the Outlook Address Book
Service disabled and beyond repair. You must create a new profile from
scratch and migrate your data using a supported method: Open your data file
in the new profile and set it as your default. Then enable your Contacts
Folder as an email address book in its properties.

Thanks for your help -- there are so many postings here it's difficult to
find the one(s) that apply to my situation.
Please elaborate on "migrate your data using a supported method" ...??? Or
point me to where I can find this information.
Thanks.

Please elaborate on why the information I already posted doesn't answer that
very question. What else did you need me to do?

I'm perhaps more of a novice than others who post here. I know how to create
a new profile, but  then you lose me.
1. Open which "data file?" Which file contains the Contacts data and where
it is located?
2. Open it how ... From Outlook? Explorer? Control Panel?
3. To "...enable your Contacts Folder as an email address book in its
properties" I presume means I do this in Ooulook...?

The PST contains all your Outlook data.  As to where it's located, you
should know, since you put it on the new PC.

Either Outlook or the Mail applet in Control Panel can be used to add the
PST to your mail profile.

Yes.
