In my OL2007 I don't have
Actions>"new message to contact"
(even when I select a category or a contact).
It is not even grayed out, it simply does not show up there...
Any ideas ?

I'm sorry, Russ, I wanted to create a new topic, but couldn't then
figured out that I couldn't delete my first posting ...

You told me that I should look in the "create" flyout. But for me,
there is only "new task for contact" and "new journal entry for
contact".

I have searched this group extensively, but could only find those
topics dealing with "DL from categories" where "new message to
contact" is provided as a solution. But I am missing this in my
"actions" menu.

Thanks so much for your help!

Any Outlook profile that has a valid mail transport will also have a "New
Message to Contact" option in that flyout when you have selected a valid
Contact that has a resolved electronic address.

Thanks for helping!

Yes, I made sure that the contact has a correct email address (that's
a resolved electronic address,no?).
And I guess, I have a valid mail transport. How can I verify this? At
least I can go into my mail folder and click on new message, and an
empty message pops up. No problem in that respect.

I will verify everything you tell me, but to me, it does not seem
obvious why I can create a new email in my email folder, whereas in my
contacts, I cannot "actions>>create>>new message to contact" !

Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks.

Something is wrong with your profile. Everyone else has this option. Repair
your installation or reset your toolbar.

I did tools>customize>toolbars and reset the toolbars "standard",
"advanced" and "menu bar". Without any change. It is still not there.
Please note also, that when I go into tools>customize>commands and
choose the category "actions" I have a whole lot of commands there,
but not "new message to contact".
I have already re-installed Outlook. Same situation.

I don't use Outlook as my mail client, I have another one, if that is
of any importance.
thanks for helping.

Then what is your question? If you don't use Outlook as your mail client,
why would you have or need a "New message to Contact" option? Why would you
expect one?
I already asked you if you used Outlook for your mail transport.

And I already replied to you regarding the mail transport. My answer
was:

When asking how can I verify this, I didn't receive an answer. Sorry.

I only said, that I normally use another mail client, as an
information when chasing the error. But I didn't imply, that I don't
need the mail functions of Outlook at all.
In this case, for example, I need the "new message to contact" for the
following reason: Conforming to what is often suggested by Outlook-
MVPs, I avoid DL and rather stick to categories. So, if I want to
write a mail to a category - instead of a DL - I sort by category,
select a category and would then like to click on "new message to
contact", as it is suggested a lot of times in this forum.
There are also a couple of other reasons, why I'd need the "new
message to contact" menu command.

I would be very thankful, if you or someone else has an idea as to why
"new message to contact" is missing.

I already answered you. I told you there will be no such item until you have
Outlook configured as your email client.

My answer to this was:

Anyway, I have reinstalled Outlook and configured my mail account.
Still, I don't have "new message to contact".

Any other ideas?
