Problem with Address book - Outlook 03 SP2

I was showing two contacts lists in my address book, one empty and
one with my contacts in it. The default was empty so every time I "checked
names" (or ctrl-k) it came up blank unless I specifically told it to look in
the second list.
So, reading other posts I first tried deleting one of the contacts lists. It
would not delete. So another post said to delete the Address Book
and recrate a a new one. I did both. But now I can't "Show this
as an email address book" (Outlook Address Book tab in properties of
Contacts folder). It's grayed out. How can I enable my contacts for this new
address book, so I can use my contacts in a n email message? Thanks.

Go to Tools | Email Accounts, choose View or change existing directories or
address book. Is the Outlook Address Book present? If it isn't listed, add
it and close and restart Outlook.  If it is listed, then remove it and close
then restart Outlook and repeat these steps to add it.

Thank you. I had added a Personal Address Book, not an Outlook Address Book.
now that I deleted the PAB and made an OAB, it works. What's the difference?

pab is an old address book format that is no longer supported.
