my new computer with vista home premium has outlook 2007.  in contacts of
outlook, searching for specific name or word, used to retrieve the contacts
that contained the date being search for.

this feature was working for about a couple of weeks, and for some reason it
stopped retreiving contacts that are known to contain those search words; it
brings out very few.

i am completely surprised by my treatment from dell, i feel i spent a lot of
money for a desktop, did not tell me there is no warranty for my outlook
program and now they want to charge me about $200 to resolve 4 problems with
outlook program that i paid $149 for.  amazing.  please comment if you know
how I may solve my searching and retreiving contacts.

thanks

You'll have to be more specific.  Describe EXACTLY how you're trying to
perform this search and what happens at each step of the process.  Also
state where in the contact form the data resides.

in my outlook 2007, in contacts, on the bar right above the contact cards
right hand side, there is a search box (not all the way up on the page, there
is another one there) the search bos has a magnifying glass inside with a
down arrow, where if you puch on the arrow a drop down menu comes up with :
recent serches, search all outlook items, search desktop, indexing statusm,
search options, and help.  when i type in a name or a word (which I know I
have, some words many of them) I use to be able to immediately start getting
those conacts.

now i dont get any result or outlook having retreived any contacts

Are you sure Instant Search has finished indexing your data?  Have you tried
the Advanced Find?

Indexing is finished.  Using the advanced options brings up a box i don't
remember seeing before.  it has nothing to do with contacts and i can't
change search all contacts to a specific contact folder.

i have no idea what is indexing, this never existed in my previous outlook
program, please explain what a person has to do to do indexing.

do you work for microsoft or are you just a good citizen helping out on the
net?

I think this is such a bunch of BS from microsoft.  ridiculous to think that
I have to pay $49 to microsoft to find out how this works.

Windows Vista comes with an application called Windows Desktop Search
integrated into Windows.  It was available for download for Windows XP, I
believe.  The default behavior for the application is to index the files on
your hard drive and the items in your Outlook data sore so that searching is
performed more quickly.  There should be an icon for search in the
Notification Area of your Taskbar.  You can check the status of the indexing
with that icon.  See Help in Windows for more information.

It is rare in the extreme for Microsoft people to visit this newsgroup, so,
no, I don't work for Microsoft.

Use Help, Google, and the Microsoft Vista web site.
