RE: Outlook 2007 –

Searching for an e-mail address is difficult because when I select
"to","cc", or "bcc" the popup menu labeled "Select Names" only has 3 fields
displayed: "Name", "Display Name", and "E-mail address".

Additionally, when the "Search Address books" is selected, the same 3 fields
are displayed.

However, in the MS help menu for the Outlook 2007 Address book has a topic
called "FIND NAMES IN THE ADDRESS BOOK ".

The screen shot of the search window show that I'm supposed to be able to
view other fields such as Title, Business Phone, Location, Company, etc.

NOTE: as indicated above, I have only 3 fields listed

Additionally a screen shot indicates OTHER lists should be available such as
"Global Address List", an All Addresses List (All Contacts, All Groups, etc).

Note: the drop down field does not show that I have any of the above lists.

Things you should know before answering:

1.    My “Outlook Address Book” is listed under the menu Tools, Account
Settings, Address book tab appears on the drop down list.

However, when selected, there aren’t any names.  However, when I select the
name “Contacts”, I can view the names listed under my “Contacts”.

2.    Referring to MS Help and Support Article ID 287563 named "Contact
information does not appear in the address book in Outlook"   LINK: <<
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;287563&Product=ol2002
 >> .

Under “Step 2: Mark your contact folder for use with your address book”, the
following is stated: "On the File menu, point to Folder, and then click
Properties for your folder name (mine is called “Personal Folders”) On the
Outlook Address Book tab, click to select the Show this folder as an e-mail
address book check box, type a descriptive name, and then click OK."

NOTE:  I do not have a tab or a folder named "Outlook Address Book" on the
folder tree.

3.    The MS Help topic "FIND NAMES IN THE ADDRESS BOOK" indicates there should
be more than one address list, such as a "Global Address List", an All
Addresses List (All Contacts, All Groups, etc).

NOTE: I do NOT have more than one address list.

Thanks for your help,

Re: 2.

you have missed a key step:

Show the Folder List in your navigation pane (the left side chuck of
Outlook).
Right click your Contacts Folder
Click Properties
Click the Outlook Address Book TAB.
Check the box to show this folder as an e-mail address book.

Judy –
My problem is very similar to TubbyLady’s and I tried to follow your
instructions. However after I have right clicked the Contacts Folder and
Properties the window called Contacts Properties the option “show this folder
and an e-mail Address Book” is grayed out and cannot be selected.
I suspect that therein lies the resolution of my problem. I need to learn
how to make the show this folder …. Option active. Any suggestions?

Instructions are well documented and posted here frequently.

Russ thanks for your very swift reply to my post. But the instructions to
which you refer to not resolve the problem.  I am running Office 2007.

Step 2 of those instructions is where the problem occurs. When I attempt to
follow this instruction “On the Outlook Address Book tab, click to select the
Show this folder as an e-mail address book check box, type a descriptive
name, and then click OK.” That option is grayed out and not selectable.

I have read through the recent post here as well as searched the Microsoft
knowledge base but have not found a workable solution yet so I appreciate
your suggestions.

That means you skipped step 1, the one where you add the Outlook Address
Book Service to your profile.

Thanks! I really appreciate yourASAP response time! You are a real go-getter!

Unfortunately, I've tried repeatedly to creat a new profile using the
instructions in the following website: <<
http://www.howto-outlook.com/faq/newprofile.htm  >> (which I mentioned in the
novel that you responded too.  Sorry for the long-windedness.  It makes it
hard for you to read.

I've used scanpst.exe for the data file.   I've worked on this since 11:00am
June 1.  It is now 4:40 AM June 2.  I've tried archive data files. I've tried
just about everything I can think of.  Evidently, I'm not the only one that
has these problems.

Today, I also wrote  MS Help and Support. It is too soon to have heard back
from them. - --

Thanks again,
TubbyLady - that actually only weighs 103lbs.  These are pet names and I
thought it was a cool username.

When I tried your suggestion to use Knowledge Base Article:-  “kbaddressbook
kbprb KB287563” – With the document title of “Contact information does not
appear in the address book in Outlook”
Located at
<<http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;287563&Product=ol2002 , UNFORTUNATELY, after I have right clicked the Contacts Folder and
> Properties the window called Contacts Properties the option “show this folder and as an e-mail Address Book” is grayed out and cannot be selected.
THEN, I tried Knowledge Base Article: kbprb KB197577 – with the document
title of ["Show this folder as an e-mail Address Book" check box is dimmed in
Outlook Contact folder properties] located at <<
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/197577/en-us#appliesto.   I scrolled down to
the subtitle:
“If your profile does not recognize the Outlook Address Book Service”
And I followed the following instructions:
If your profile includes the Outlook Address Book Service, you may be able
to correct this problem if you remove the service from your profile and then
you add the service.

To remove and then add the Outlook Address Book Service to your profile in
Outlook 2007, follow these steps:
1.If Outlook is running, click the File menu, and then click Exit to close
Outlook.
2.Click Start, click Control Panel, click User Accounts, and then click Mail.
3.In the Mail Setup-Outlook dialog box, click E-mail Accounts.
4.In the Account Settings dialog box, select the name of the Outlook Address
Book Service to be removed, and then click Remove.
5. Click Yes to confirm that you want to remove the Outlook Address Book
Service.
6.In the Account Settings dialog box, click New.
7.If you see the Add New Email account-Choose E-mail Service dialog box,
select the Microsoft Exchange, POP3, IMAP, or HTTP option, and then click
Next.
If you see the Add New Email account-Auto Account Setup dialog box, proceed
to the next step.
8.In the Add New Email account-Auto Account Setup dialog box, type your
name, e-mail address, and password, and then click Next.
9.When you see the congratulations screen, click Finish.
10.Start Outlook.
UNFORTUNATELY, the check box REMAINED dimmed under the Contact Properties
opton.
THEREFORE, I searched on Google and located another possible solution
located on << http://www.howto-outlook.com/faq/newprofile.htm >>.  These are
the instructions I followed:
To (re)create a mail profile follow the following steps;
1.    go to Control Panel-> Mail-> button Show Profiles…
If you are using a 64-bit edition of Windows;
go to Control Panel-> Additional Options-> View 32-bit Control Panel Items->
Mail-> button Show Profiles…
2.    press the button Add…
o    Do NOT use Copy… even if you want to recreate your mail profile or you’ll
end up copying the corruption as well
o    Do NOT delete your old profile, even when it is corrupted, before you
verified that the new one works. You might want to lookup some account
settings afterwards
3.    Enter a name for your profile
4.    Select to add a new mail account   (Make sure you choose the correct
account type. Ask your ISP or administrator if you do not know this.)
5.    Since I want to recreate the mail profile (instead of adding a new one),
In the Mail pop-up dialog box (Control Panel > Mail > Show Profiles) I
configured OUTLOOK  to use my newly created profile as the default.  This is
done  by selecting Control Panel > Mail > Show Profiles and selecting
“Always use this profile” and selecting your new profile from the Drop-Down
box. – and selecting APPLY and then OK
When you are done creating the mail profile you might want to add a pst-file
to it like your original pst-file or an archive file. To do this open Outlook
and choose;
File-> Open-> Outlook Data File…
NEXT, add a new pst-file as shown below:
1.    Select TOOLS .> ACCOUNT SETTINGS > DATA FILES tab > ADD > Data File Type
> Open > ?
2.    Restart Outlook
3.    Change the default data file.  Select File-> Data File Management…
4.    Select the name of the pst-file you want mails delivered to and press the
“Set as Default” button
5.    Restart Outlook
6.    Remove “empty” pst file created earlier
1.    In Outlook choose File-> Data File Management…
2.    Remember the path to the pst-file you want to remove
3.    Press Remove
4.    Close Outlook
5.    Go to the location of the pst-file
6.    Delete it
Now that you’ve fully configured your new profile and verified it that it
works you might want to remove the old one;
1.    Go to Control Panel-> Mail-> button Show Profiles…
2.    Select the profile the old profile
3.    Press Remove
You should now have a properly configured account with your original
pst-file as the default delivery location.
UNFORTUNATELY, the above procedures did not work for me either.  Any
suggestions?

The Outlook Address Book has never had those fields, nor can it be
configured to show them. You would never be searching for those fields in
the address book view anyway.
Searches on those fields are done in the Contacts folder.
