Is there an easy way to pick and choose which contacts synch over to my
phone?  i am using 2007 and activesynch 4.5.  I have been trying to find a
way using software limits but i am striking out.  i dont want to archive by
date.  I would like to archive by some other criteria, IE category, or move
non current contacts to theri own folder so activesynch wont synch them, i
cant find an option in activesync.  My goal is to free up some memory
resources on my phone while retaining easy search access on my laptop.

any advice would be appreciated.

Assign categories to your contacts.  Then, in Activesync, use the Settings
button with Contacts highlighted to select which categories to synch.

I did think of that, but the settings button is not available to be with
contacts, only e mail, calender, notes and favorites.

Yes it is.  Open ActiveSync on your PC.  Click Options.  Select Contacts.
Click Settings.  Select the radio button labeled "Synchronize only those
contacts in the following selected categories".  Click OK, then OK.
