Unable to sort contacts within categories

In the previous version of Office I could view my
contacts by category, click any field at the top of the
screen, like File as or Email address and the contacts
would sort by category. In Outlook 2003 this no longer
occurs. My contacts appear randomly within the category
and I'm unable to easily sort them. How do I resolve this?

Thanks.

Outlook has never sorted by category. Instead, it groups by category. In a table view, right-click the column headings and choose Arrange By, then Categories. Or switch to the By Category view.

I have this same problem.  I believe that MS got this part of the software in Outlook 2003 screwed up.  In 2002, we could sort columns within a category, but in 2003 - the categories dissapear and all contacts are listed.  Just this morning, I posted this same type question in this discussion group.  Read that dated 2/25/04 - titled "Category view dissappears during a sort".  I am still waiting a response..

In my experience, you have to click on the field you want
to sort by. This removes the grouping, though, so then
right click the category field and choose "group by this
field." It's a pain.
