Hello, I am trying to sort my contacts by the categories
I assigned them but still keep the view as the detailed
address view. Is that possible? I would like to print
out, say, just my Emergency Contacts and I found how to
print them but they are just in a columned list. So I
would like see if I can print the detailed address cards
but have them sorted by category.

Thanks!

Unfortunately, you can't sort or group by the category field in a Card style
view.  What you could do is add a filter to your detailed address cards view
to only show items belonging to a certain category, and then print that
view...then change the filter to another category and repeat the process.

A trick I've used to get around the fact that you cannot sort b
Categories in Address Card view...

I am using Outlook 2000 on Windows XP Pro (at home) and Windows 200
(at work).

Enter the Category information into one of the User Fields. That way
you can filter (only show some categories), or you can also sort (Sho
all the categories, and you can set up additional sort criteria).

If you start by setting up your view as 'by Category' then add Use
Field 1 (and set it right next to the Category field), then it make
entering the data a little easier (copy the category once and paste i
User field 1 as many times as you need). After all the data is entered
then switch to Address Card view, set up sort (by user field 1, then b
last name/file as/whatever you want etc.) and your contacts will b
sorted nicely. I also set up a rule (customize current view -
automatic formatting) that any contact with User Field 1 empty shows u
in bright red to alert me to enter Category data
