Removing Faxes From Address Book in OL 2002

I recently upgraded from OL 2000 to 2002.

All of my contacts are in the Contacts folder and in OL
2000 I used to be able to type part (or all) of a
person's name in the To or CC list and it would resolve
the email address by searching in the address book.

After the upgrade to 2002, the Address Book is listing
two entries for each person (even though there is only
one entry per person in the Contacts folder). The Address
Book is including each person's fax number as an entry in
addition to their email address. Because there are two
entries for each person, it can't resolve the typed names
and I have to open the Address Book and manually select
each recipient. Furthermore, I have to be careful to
select the email entry for the person and not the fax
entry.

Is there any way to prevent the Address Book from listing
contacts by their fax number in Outlook 2002?

Thanks.

The standard behavior for the Outlook Address book is to display all
electronic addresses (both fax and e-mail). That behavior cannot be changed.
The only way to prevent the display of fax numbers is to store them in a
different field or to disguise them (e.g., precede them with an alpha
character) so that Outlook won't recognize them as phone numbers.
There are also a number of utilities available that can do this for you
automatically. Some are listed here:

The solution of prepending the phone number with a alpha
character does not seem to work.

I exported my contact list to an Excel spreadsheet and
changed the column with the Business Faxes to prepend
each entry with "Fax:" and then reimported the contact
list from the Excel spreadsheet, overwriting existing
entries.

I'm still getting the double entries, but now it shows
the following for the contact's fax number under the E-
mail Address column in the Address Book:
"FirstName LastName@Fax:(212)555-1212"

Since I have used the solution suggested at the
slipstick.com site, I hestitate to spend $20 to buy their
tool only to find out it won't work.

Both solutions work when implemented correctly.
